It can be quite uncomfortable to play an instrument and flip pages at the same time, but you may need to read the next musical notes, which can be on a different page. VirtMus, which is short for "Virtual Music", provides a simple, but effective solution. If you import your sheet music into its database, the software will display your pages and turn them automatically, so you won't have to take your hands off the instrument.

VirtMus is distributed as a freeware application, so you don't have to pay for it. The installation process should not take more than a minute. You can run the application right away, without installing any additional tools or services.

Besides using VirtMus as a prompter for your sheet music, you can also store and organize your collection. Songs can be added in a tree structure, by selecting one or more audio files or playlists. Once you load your audio files, you can move them in different folders, in the same tree structure and assign music pages to individual entries.

Music sheets can be in graphical format, like JPG, PNG and so on or in PDF format. If you load a PDF file, you can decide to import a specific range of pages. Loaded pages are listed as thumbnails, on the right side of the interface and you can preview them in the central region. Additionally, you can add your personal annotations, by drawing over the pages, with any color, using different size and transparency settings.

You just need to select a song and click a Play button, located on a toolbar, to start turning the pages. VirtMus will display your pages in full screen mode and it will slide them horizontally, according to a speed of your choice.

Pros

VirtMus can turn sheet music pages automatically. You can organize your songs, along with their corresponding music sheets. The software also allows you to add personal annotations, by drawing over your pages.

Cons

In certain cases, you may not be able to delete or remove an imported song. With VirtMus, you can focus on playing an instrument and read the next musical notes, without taking your hands off the instrument.
